Drug wholesale company Uniphar Group has announced a deal to buy the healthcare distribution business of the SISK Group for an undisclosed sum.

The deal for SISK Healthcare is subject to approval from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Today's deal is the fourth acquisition by Uniphar over the last 12 months and is the largest proposed deal since its purchase of Cahill May Roberts in 2013.

The company said the acquisition is in line with its "ambitious growth and development strategy".

It is aiming to become the sectoral leader in the provision of outsourced and specialist services to manufacturers in the pharmaceutical and medical sectors on a pan-European basis.

Uniphar has an annual turnover of about €1.3 billion.

Uniphar's chief executive Ger Rabbette said that SISK Healthcare has a talented, knowledgeable team and brings a new area of related expertise into our business.

"It's an excellent fit for Uniphar and will work well within our expanding  portfolio of stand-alone companies, all of whom collaborate to deliver integrated outsourced solutions in the healthcare sector in Ireland, the U.K. and the Benelux," the CEO added.
