New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that while the overall number of visitors coming here rose in March, the number of visitors from the UK continued to decline.

The latest CSO figures reveal that the total number of trips made to Ireland rose by 5.5% to 759,800 in March, an overall increase of 39,800 compared to the same time last year.

The CSO noted that trips by UK residents decreased by 5.5% to 293,300 as a weaker sterling made a trip here more expensive for UK tourists.

Trips by residents of European Countries other than the UK increased by 8.5% to 269,700 last month, while trips by residents of the US and Canada to Ireland jumped by 24.8% to 158,200 in March.

The CSO also said that trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 13.5% to 38,700.

Meanwhile, the total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during March was up 1% to 558,600.
