Irish Distillers said that visitor numbers at its Jameson Distillery topped more than 350,000 in the first year since it reopened in March last year after an €11m refurbishment.

This makes the Jameson Distillery Bow Street site the most-visited whiskey experience in the world.

The Irish Whiskey Association said that 814,000 people visited the 12 distillery visitor centres on the island of Ireland in 2017.

The association aims to increase whiskey tourism visitors to 1.9 million by 2025.

Irish Distillers said that 50,000 Jameson whiskey sours were served last year at its Bow Street facility, while 32,000 whiskey enthusiasts took part in whiskey blending and cocktail master classes.

25,000 personalised distillery edition Jameson bottles were also sold.
