Ardmore Studios has been acquired by Olcott Entertainment in a deal led by Ion Equity co-founder Joe Devine.
The purchase price was not disclosed but Ardmore, home of television and film productions ranging from Braveheart to Dancing With The Stars, has in the past been valued at up to €15m.
Ardmore was put up for sale in late 2016 by majority owners Paul McGuinness, the former manager of U2, and accountant Ossie Kilkenny.
The acquisition by Olcott also includes the 32% stake previously held on behalf of the state by Enterprise Ireland.
In a statement, Olcott Entertainment said it planned to retain Ardmore's employees and that chief executive Siún Ní Raghallaigh would remain in her position.
Joe Devine said Olcott the context for the transaction was the "significant global demand for content" and, in turn, for production facilities.
"The drive for more content is fuelled by big screen film, increasingly on demand TV and the gaming industry. When coupled with Ireland having one of the more attractive incentive schemes in the world, it makes Ardmore an attractive asset," he said.
Separate from his stake in Olcott, Mr Devine is an investor in Troy Studios in Limerick, of which he is also chairman.
