Ireland welcomed 585,500 visitors to our shores in January this year, but the number of people visiting from Britain decreased by 4.4%.

While the number of British visitors may have fallen, our nearest neighbours accounted for 41% of the number of people who visit here in January.

According to the Central Statistics Office, the number of people visiting from Europe and the United States resulted in an overall increase of 21,400 compared to twelve months earlier.

Trips by residents of the US and Canada to Ireland increased by 3.1% to 93,800 while trips to Ireland from other parts of the world decreased by 0.7% to 43,600. 

The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during January 2018 increased by 7.8% to 548,000.

The total number of trips – Irish residents’ trips overseas and trips to Ireland - in January increased by 5.7% to 1,133,500 when compared to January last year.
