London Stock Exchange chairman Donald Brydon will remain in his post after a majority of shareholders opposed a motion calling for his removal.

More than 79% of votes were cast against a resolution to remove the LSE chairman from his position, while 20.9% were cast in favour.

Commenting on the result of the LSE's general meeting, Mr Brydon said: "The board would like to thank shareholders for their support today".

"The board and I welcome the stability that this gives the group," he added.

"The recruitment process for a new CEO is under way and we will update our shareholders in due course," he said, referring to the search for a replacement for former chief executive Xavier Rolet, who stepped down last month.
