Fresh produce company Total Produce has bought a 50% equity stake in California based company, The Fresh Connection for an disclosed sum.

The Fresh Connection was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Lafayette, California. The company is one of North America's premier produce export companies with 2016 sales of about $165m.

It partners with a network of growers throughout the US, Mexico, South America, South Africa and Australia, which enables it to provide many varieties of fresh produce - mainly citrus, apples, pears, grapes, berries, cherries and stone fruit - to its customers.

Total Produce chairman Carl McCann said the deal further broadens the company's US presence and provides it with strategic access to other key markets.

"We look forward to working with the excellent people in The Fresh Connection as it continues to develop its very successful business expansion in future years," Mr McCann said.
