The total number of trips made to Ireland in the three months from July to September rose by 1.1% despite a sharp dip in the number of UK visitors coming here, new CSO figures show.
The Central Statistics Office said the total number of trips made to Ireland over that three month period rose to 3,095,600, an increase of 34,100 on the same time last year.
But it noted that trips by UK residents to Ireland decreased by 7.3% to 1,065,200 as a weaker sterling made a trip here more expensive for UK tourists.
The CSO also said that visits by residents of European countries other than the UK increased by 0.1% to 1,086,900, while trips by residents of North America to Ireland soared by 14.9% to 732,600.
Today's figures also reveal that trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 10.9% to 210,900 during the three month period.
Meanwhile, the CSO said that the number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the three months from July to September rose by 10.7% to 2,495,000.
