New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that monthly wholesale, or factory gate prices, decreased by 0.5% in September. 

The CSO said that on a yearly basis, wholesale prices were down 2.7% in September of this year compared to the same time last year.

Today's figures show that on a monthly basis, the wholesale prices of computer, electronic and optical products were down 1.2%, while basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations prices eased by 1.1%.

An increase of 3.6% was seen in wholesale furniture prices, while wood and wood products prices rose by 2.1% and printing and reproduction of recorded media rose by 2%.

The CSO noted that all building and construction materials prices increased by 3.2% in the year since September. The biggest annual changes were seen in the wholesale price of glass - up 21.7% - while sand and gravel prices rose 8.9% and stone prices increased by 7.8%.

The price of energy products also increased by 11% in September of this year compared to September 2016, while petroleum fuels increased by 5.5%.
