Microsoft and GE have agreed a deal which will see Microsoft buying 100% of the wind energy produced from GE's Tullahennel wind farm in Co Kerry.

Microsoft said the deal will help support the groabwing demand for its cloud services from Ireland.

As part of the agreement, Microsoft also signed a deal with Dublin-based energy trading company ElectroRoute to provide energy trading services to Microsoft.

Once operational, the new wind project will bring Microsoft's total global direct procurement in renewable energy projects to almost 600 megawatts.

Microsoft is also buying an Irish energy supply license from GE.

It said this license will benefit both Microsoft and the Irish power grid, as it allows the company the flexibility to easily grow and invest in renewable energy in Ireland over time.
