Monthly services index down by 6.3% in August - CSO

The monthly services value index, which measures output among non-financial services companies, fell by 6.3% between July and August.

Latest figures from the Central Statistics Office also show the index fell by 1.9% annually in August.

Administrative and Support Service Activities (+2.9%), Other Services Activities (+1.5%) and Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (+0.1%) were the sectors that showed the biggest increase during the month.

Whereas output in Information and Communication (-18%), Wholesale and Retail Trade (-3.1%), Transportation and Storage (-2.5%) was lower for August.

The sectors that showed the largest increases in the year to August were Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (+11.6%), Wholesale and Retail Trade (+8.9%), Other Service Activities (+8.3%), Accommodation and Food Service Activities (+4.7%) and Administrative and Support Service Activities (+1.7%).

Information and Communication (-18.6%) and Transportation and Storage (-10.3%) recorded decreases over the same time frame.
