Real estate investment firm Hines has lodged planning permission for a major mixed use development, including 1,269 apartments, at its Cherrywood project in south Dublin.
All of the apartments will be build-to-rent, however, which means there will be no owner-occupiers in the development.
Hines is seeking permission for a 2.1 million square foot plan for the Town Centre at Cherrywood, which includes the apartments as well as retail, restaurants and cafés at the south Dublin site.
Pending planning approval, construction of the Town Centre is expected to take three years to complete.
About 3,000 construction workers will be employed during the building, which is expected to start in the second quarter of next year.
In a statement, Hines said that Cherrywood Town Centre will eventually be home to over 3,200 people, with the potential to accommodate 2,300 office staff and provide employment for over 2,500 retail workers.
Construction is already well advanced on the first key phase of the Cherrywood development, a €160m project which will see the construction of three new parks and 5.4 kilometres of roadways, pedestrian footpaths, cycle paths and greenways. Over 3,000 new trees will also be planted.
Hines said that this work is progressing on schedule and is due for completion in Spring 2018.
Hines first bought the Cherrywood site in November 2014.
