Germany's Delivery Hero, the world's largest online takeaway food delivery company, reported a 66% rise in first-half revenue and sharply narrower losses, but growth slowed in the three months to June.

The company said first-half 2017 revenue rose 66% to €246.5m compared with the first half of 2016.

Its adjusted margin on core earnings narrowed to a loss of 18% from a loss of 47% the same time a year ago.

Berlin-based Delivery Hero said it expects revenue of between €530-540m for the full year, with adjusted EBITDA margins improving modestly to between -15 and 17%.

It reiterated its plans to break even in 2018.

First-half revenue growth appeared to decelerate compared with the first quarter of 2017, when it reported year-to-year growth of 90%.

However like-for-like comparisons are made difficult by the company's frequent purchases and disposals in certain markets.

Delivery Hero is active in more than 40 countries in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Latin America and Asia. It saw double-digit first-half revenue growth in all of its regions.

Delivery Hero was the fourth online food delivery firm to go public in recent years, following US-based GrubHub, Britain's Just Eat and Takeaway.com of the Netherlands, all of which have all seen their share price soar since listing.

Delivery Hero's shares are up nearly 30% since its initial public offering in late June.

A fifth online food delivery firm, privately held UK-based Deliveroo, just raised $385m in new funding at a $2 billion valuation.
