A quarterly employment monitor published by recruitment firm CPL Resources indicates the number of new jobs listed by employers fell between March and June after 22 consecutive quarters of growth.
The number of new jobs advertised in the second quarter of this year was down 4% on the same quarter in 2016.
The dip in new listings follows a record high achieved between January and March.
The monitor found sectors such as accounting, finance and banking continued to perform strongly but new job listings in IT, sales and marketing were down on their 2016 average.
Peter Cosgrove, from CPL Resources said that while this is the first time the company has seen a fall in jobs postings year-on-year since the start of its survey, it is clear that companies are struggling to find the right talent and are thinking of other ways to manage their vacancies.
"While Brexit has certainly caused some uncertainty in the market, the picture is still very strong for the Irish market as we continue to look to bringing more of the Irish diaspora home," he added.
