The number of successful planning permissions jumped by 50.4% in the first quarter of this year, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.
A total of 4,650 planning permissions were granted for homes in the first three months of the year, up from 3,091 units the same time last year.
Today's figures show that planning permissions were granted for 3,754 houses in the first quarter of this year, up 48% on the first quarter of 2016.
Meanwhile, planning permissions were granted for 896 apartment units, a jump of 60.9% on the permissions for 557 units in the first quarter of last year.
The CSO noted that one-off houses accounted for 27.4% of all new dwelling units granted planning permission in the quarter.
It also said that the total floor area planned was 1,461 thousand square metres in the first quarter of 2017.
Of this, 52.1% was for new dwellings, 28.8% for other new constructions and 19.1% for extensions.
This marked a 14% increase in the total floor area planned the same time last year.
