Outdoor clothing company Regatta Great Outdoors has announced the creation of 100 jobs with the opening of several new stores nationwide, including key locations in Galway, Dublin and Waterford.

The company has 11 standalone stores across the country with seven more openings planned for this year.

Regatta opened its first concession in Shaws of Wexford in 2004 and had expanded to 18 concession stores by 2009.

The company opened its first standalone store in Limerick in 2011.

"We are delighted to see our business growing following some turbulent years in Ireland as we are creating new jobs in local areas. We look forward to continued growth and success in the coming years," commented the company's Ireland director Brian Fox.

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O'Connor noted that most of the expanded range of outlets are in regional locations, serving towns around the country.

"A vibrant retail sector is key to creating vibrant towns and communities across the country and helps to make a place attractive to work in, socialise in and live in. I look forward to this company's on-going success," the Minister added.

Meanwhile, Blue Insurance said it plans to hire an extra 25 staff before the end of the year as the company expands in the car and home insurance markets.

The company has just reported 26% growth in turnover to €33m in 2016 and announced earnings, before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of €3.1m.

The new hires will bring Blue Insurance's total headcount to 99, the company said.

The new roles will be in IT software developers, website designer, accounts and customer service executives and based in Co Dublin.

The company said that its turnover jumped in Ireland by 40% and by 7% in the UK, despite the collapse in sterling due to the Brexit vote in the UK.
