Factory gate prices fall by 0.7% in April - CSO

Monthly factory gate prices fell by 0.7% between March and April, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.

The statistics also show a price rise of 1.8% since April 2016.

During April the price for export sales was 0.6% lower, while the index for home sales fell by 1%.

In the year there was an increase of 1.6% in the price index for export sales (this can be influenced by currency fluctuations) and an increase of 3.8% in respect of the price index for home sales.

Last month the most significant change was a decrease in basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (-2.7%), while there were increases in meat and meat products (+1.9%), computer, electronic and optical products (+1.5%) and other manufacturing including medical and dental instruments and supplies (+1.2%).

Contributing to the annual change were increases in dairy products (+18.4%), computer, electronic and optical products (+6.5%) and other food products including bread and confectionery (+5.7%), while there were decreases in other manufacturing including medical and dental instruments and supplies (-6.4%), printing and reproduction of recorded media (-3.8%) and basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (-0.9%).

Building and construction material prices increased by 3.4% in the year since April 2016.

The most notable yearly changes were increases in glass (+21.7%), sand and gravel (+19.6%) and stone (+8.7%).

The CSO figures also show the price of energy products increased by 13.8% in the year since April 2016, while petroleum fuels increased by 13.9%.
