Construction output up 2.6% in third quarter

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the volume of output in the building and construction sector rose by 2.6% in the third quarter of the year compared to the previous three month period.

The CSO said the volume of output in the non-residential sector rose by 6.7%, while there was a marginal increase of 0.1% in residential building work.

Meanwhile, the volume of civil engineering work fell by 1.4% in the three months from July to September.

Today's figures also show that on a yearly basis, the volume of construction output rose by 19.4% in the third quarter compared to the same time last year.

Residential building recorded an increase of 30.8%, while non-residential construction grew by 27.8% and civil engineering work was up 8.7%.

The CSO also noted an increase of 23.6% in the value of production in the third quarter of the year compared to the same time in 2015.
