There was an 11.6% rise in the number of trips to Ireland in the first ten months of the year, according to the Central Statistics Office.
Almost 8.28 million people came to Ireland between January and October, according to the latest figures, compared to around 7.42 million in the same period of 2015.
Around 2.85 million of those trips were made between August and October – a 9.4% gain on the same three months of 2015.
Of those that travelled to Ireland in the first ten months of the year, more than 3.3 million of them came from Britain – up 11.9% year-on-year.
There were almost 2.9 million trips made from residents of other European countries – up 9.8% on last year – while more than 1.58m came from North America; a 18% improvement.
Irish residents also made more overseas trips of their own in the ten month period, according to the CSO, with more than 6.36 million journeys abroad recorded. That is up 5.1% on the same period of 2015.
