Irish airline CityJet has reached an agreement with Stobart Group, the operator of regional airline Stobart Air, to base aircraft at its London Southend Airport from next summer.

The deal, which will see the creation of up to 80 jobs in the region, means CityJet will operate a number of routes from the airport to European destinations.

It comes as the two groups have been negotiating a possible merger, which could reportedly be completed as soon as next week.

Stobart Air (formerly known as Aer Arann) is Aer Lingus’ Regional operator.

The exact route details will be announced at a later stage.
