ICON names Cutler as new CEO

ICON's third quarter revenues rise by 6.4%

Clinical research firm ICON has reported third quarter net revenue of $420.2m, an increase of 6.4% from the $394.7m reported the same time last year.

ICON's net income increased by 9.6% to $67.4m compared with $61.5m and the company also said its income from operations grew by 13.7% to $81.2m compared to $71.4m in the third quarter of 2015.

ICON also announced today that from next March, its current chief executive Ciaran Murray will move to the role of Chairman.

Dr Steve Cutler, currently the company's Chief Operating Officer, will become CEO. 

Dr Cutler joined ICON in 2011 as President of its Clinical Research Services. He was promoted to ICON plc Chief Operating Officer in 2014 and was appointed to the board of directors in November 2015.

Commenting on today's results, CEO Ciaran Murray said that the third quarter was a strong quarter for ICON. 

He noted that its net business wins amounted to $510m and its backlog grew by almost 12% over last year to $4.25 billion. 

"Our continuing success in winning business, growing our backlog and diversifying our customer base positions us well for future growth," Mr Murray added.
