Production for manufacturing industries fell by 13.7% between July and August, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.
On an annual basis in August production was 8.5% lower.
However, the CSO has urged caution in interpreting the industrial production and turnover figures as they have been revised to reflect the changes to GDP revisions.
The modern sector showed a monthly decrease in production of 23.1% for August and an annual decrease of 12.7% compared with August 2015.
Meanwhile, there was a monthly increase of 0.2% in the traditional sector for August and an annual decrease of 2.9% compared with August of last year.
Turnover decreased by 13.2% for manufacturing industries in August when compared with July, while annually turnover was 7.3% lower than August 2015.
