Former TV3 chief executive David McRedmond has been announced as the new chief executive of An Post, replacing Donal Connell, who retired in May.
Mr McRedmond left TV3 following its takeover by Virgin Media last year, after nine years in the role.
He is also chairman of public relations consultancy Powerscourt.
Announcing the appointment, An Post Chairman Dermot Divilly said: "I am delighted to have attracted a business leader of the experience of David McRedmond to lead An Post through the challenging industry and technology environment in the years ahead.
"I have been impressed by his ability to lead transformational change in companies across several adjacent sectors such as retailing, telecoms and media.
"I am confident that with the talented An Post team and dedicated workforce, David will lead the transformation of An Post for the long-term future."
Mr McRedmond said: "It is an honour and a rare opportunity to be able to lead such a major organisation as An Post.
"The company has a magnificent history and is a great and much-loved brand. My job will be to ensure its future is as bright as its past, meeting the seismic market changes head-on with boldness and creativity.
"I have been convinced by the board’s dedication to the task of ensuring An Post is central to a dynamic, open Irish economy."
Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten welcomed the appointment, describing Mr McRedmond as an "experienced leader with a proven track record".
"I have every confidence in his abilities to lead An Post effectively at a critical juncture for the company," he said. "With opportunities emerging in the digital economy coupled with its strong reputation as a trusted brand An Post can further enhance its standing and position in the marketplace with David at the helm."
Mr Naughten also thanked former CEO Donal Connell for his service over the past ten years.
