CPL Resources CEO Anne Heraty has been appointed as the new President of business representative body Ibec.
Ms Heraty was previously deputy president of the organisation and she replaces Gerry Collins in the role.
Speaking following her appointment, during an address to Ibec’s annual President’s Dinner at the RDS, Ms Heraty outlined what she believes the Government should do in relation to Brexit, the upcoming Budget, and housing and childcare.
She said “a fully Brexit-proofed Budget needs to aggressively confront the UK competitiveness challenge and, at the same time, position Ireland to take full advantage of the inward investment opportunities that will arise”.
Meanwhile, specifically on the upcoming Budget, Ms Heraty said it should include “a major overhaul of our business taxes, to bring the Irish offering into line with the UK”.
She added that cost competitiveness should be central to any decisions taken in the Budget.
During her address, the new Ibec President said “the recent and continuing decline in our University rankings is extremely disappointing, but understandable given the deep and damaging cuts suffered by the sector in recent years.”
Ms Heraty said we need to be “ambitious in our funding for the education system, particularly in higher education”.
