The country's biggest brands have once again delivered a strong performance in the latest edition of the Checkout Top 100 Brands.

The list is produced by Checkout magazine in association with Nielsen.

Coca-Cola takes the top spot for the 12th year in a row on the annual list of the biggest-selling brands in the Irish grocery marketplace.

Cadbury Dairy Milk comes second on the latest list, followed by Brennans Bread, Avonmore milk and Tayto crisps.

Checkout said the list highlighted the enduring loyalty of Irish consumers to domestic brands.

Other Irish brands performing well on this year's list include Jacob's (9th), Dairygold (14th), soft drinks brand Club (16th), Pat the Baker (21st), and Irish Pride (22nd).

Yoplait breaks into the top ten for the first time, while Ferrero-owned Kinder has climbed an impressive ten places to make it into the top 20, in 19th position.

Checkout also said that Hunky Dorys achieved its highest position yet at 27th, as did Glenisk at 32nd, Keelings at 33rd, Flahavan's at 51st, Carroll’s Meats at 53rd and Brady Family ham at 54th.

"As the Irish grocery landscape becomes more and more competitive, Ireland’s biggest brands are again proving they are ready to rise to the challenge," commented Jenny Whelan, Checkout's editor.

"Irish shoppers might be slow to change their shopping habits, especially after years of tight budgets and a discount-heavy market, but this year’s Top 100 shows that consumers are willing to trade up where brands have the right value and quality credentials," she added.

The list is based on branded value sales across the Irish grocery sector, making it the most accurate barometer of the biggest selling brands in the marketplace. Nielsen measures the sales performance of over 6,500 brands from over 200 product classes in compiling the report.
