Passenger numbers at Dublin Airport reached more than 13 million in the first half of 2016 – representing a rise of 13% or 1.5 million on the same period last year – according to the Dublin Airport Authority.
UK passenger traffic is up 13% with almost 4.8 million passengers flying to and from 19 UK cities in the first six months.
Meanwhile, passenger traffic to and from continental Europe also grew by 13% in the first six months to over 6.6 million, and transatlantic traffic increased by 19% with 1.2 million passengers travelling between Dublin and North America between January and June.
The DAA said passenger numbers flying to other international destinations fell slightly, while Irish domestic passenger traffic rose by a quarter to nearly 45,000 people.
Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison said the addition of 15 new services to the airport’s route network was a major factor behind the growth.
He added: “The outlook for the rest of the year remains positive with 2016 on course to surpass last year, which was the busiest in the airport’s history.”
Dublin Airport has direct flights to over 180 destinations in 40 countries on four continents.
