There has been criticism of the fact that eFlow tagging is to be removed from a number of tollbooths around the country.
The move comes after eFlow said it will not be renewing its contract with Celtic Roads Group, operator of a number of motorways in Ireland.
The decision will mean that customers will no longer be able to use eFlow tolling on the M1 near Drogheda, the M7/M8 south of Portlaoise and the N25 at Waterford from the end of August.
Instead they would be required to pay at the booths, increasing delays at the tollbooths.
In a statement today, Fianna Fáil's transport spokesperson Robert Troy said the decision could have a serious impact on traffic congestion unless it is averted.
In response, Celtic Roads Group General Manager Lorcan Wood said: “We deeply regret the likely disruption and inconvenience to all our CRG customers.
"We really want to resolve the issue but at the moment we cannot meet the TII demands. We remain in contact with TII / eFlow and continue to encourage them not to withdraw their service from their customers.
“The service switch-off decision is entirely out of our hands at the moment. However, we believe it is important for motorists to be aware of the threat of disruption caused by this issue.
"Customers can use the time available now to arrange the solution most suitable for them,” he added.
