May passenger numbers for Aer Lingus’ parent company, International Airlines Group, rose by 21.3% to 8.87m, compared with the same month in 2015.

Meanwhile, IAG traffic in May, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres, increased by 14.1% versus May 2015.

Aer Lingus had 1.79bn Revenue Passenger Kilometres in May, while four Aer Lingus B757 aircraft will be fitted with high-speed in-flight connectivity as part of an agreement between IAG and Gogo to provide internet access on board flights.

IAG will be the first European airline group to use Gogo’s latest technology called “2Ku”.

In addition to the Aer Lingus planes fitted with the technoogy, 118 British Airways, and up to 15 Iberia longhaul aircraft will be fitted with 2Ku.

By early 2019, IAG says 90% its longhaul fleet will be fitted with the technology.
