New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that a total of 5,115 days were lost due to industrial disputes in the first quarter of this year.

The CSO said that four disputes were in progress in the first quarter of 201. These involved a total of 4,828 workers and four firms.

The education sector accounted for 67.5% of total days - 3,454 - lost in the first quarter of 2016, while the transport sector lost 1,071 days due to industrial rows.

The two other disputes were in the industrial and construction sectors.

Meanwhile, the CSO said were four disputes the same time last year involving 27,588 workers and resulting in 24,056 days lost.
