Electric Ireland has said it will reduce its standard electricity unit rates for residential customers by 6% from June. 

The company said the cut will see a saving of €57.75 (including VAT) or 5.2 % a year on an average customer bill.   

It also noted that this was the company's third price decrease in less than two years. 

Electric Ireland has about 1.2 million residential electricity customers.
