New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the volume of output in building and construction increased by 1.3% in the fourth quarter of 2015 when compared with the previous quarter.
The CSO said this reflects increases of 8.8% and 7% respectively in the volume of civil engineering and non-residential building work.
The volume of residential building work decreased by 1.9%. But the CSO said that due to the "unprecedented low base" this series is starting from, it will continue to monitor the quality and comparability of the data.
Meanwhile, on an annual basis, the volume of output in building and construction increased by 9.5% in the fourth quarter of 2015.
The annual rise in the volume of output reflects annual increases of 12.5%, 9.1% and 6.2% respectively in residential building work, non-residential building work and civil engineering.
