Negotiations are on-going over the future of a pharmaceutical plant in Co Tipperary.

More than 100 people are employed at the Ranbaxy plant in Cashel.

The facility is owned by Sun Pharma, the fifth largest drugs producer in the world, which took over Ranbaxy's international operations this time last year.

The company is looking at selling the plant and a potential buyer pulled out this week, but it is understood other companies are still considering their options.

Staff at the Cashel plant make and package generic drugs.

The company is seeking to re-organise its global operations with a view to optimising its costs and overall capacity.

It has stated its intention to scale down or divest itself of certain operations worldwide.

The Cashel site has been earmarked as one of those locations to be either sold or divested.
