Glanbia has announced the opening of a new €15m state-of-the-art ultra heat-treated milk processing facility at Lough Egish, near Castleblayney, Co Monaghan.

The expansion at the former dairy co-op processing plant is expected to result in the creation of around 40 jobs.

21 of the new positions have already been filled.

Glanbia CEO Henry Corbally said a range of long liquid milk and cream products produced at the plant will now be exported to various markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

He described today's expansion by the company as very good news for the region and said it is a very exciting time for the Irish dairy industry.

The extension was officially opened by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys and the Minister for Business and the Department for Jobs, Ged Nash.
