Building materials group Kingspan has been included in the top tier of a list of global companies who are responding to the challenges of climate change.

113 companies are listed on the CDP's "A List", which features some of the world's biggest companies including Microsoft, Apple and Google.

The CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, is an international not-for-profit organisation which provides the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose and manage vital environmental information.

It analyses 2,000 companies around the world for over 800 institutional investors representing over $95 trillion in invested capital.

Kingspan is the only Irish listed company to make the "A List" in recognition of its actions to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change during the last year.

"The climate change agenda is at the heart of the Kingspan Group's vision and activities, and I am proud that we are the only Irish listed company to have made the CDP A List," commented Kingspan's chief executive Gene Murtagh.

"We recognise the significance of climate change to global society and the central importance of addressing the environmental impact of the built environment - both existing and new build - as part of efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions," he added.

Co Cavan-based Kingspan had committed to operating with zero net energy impact by 2020. As of last year, Kingspan said that 28% of its energy usage was from renewable forms and it is currently on track to exceed an interim target of 50% next year.

The company's insulation materials, such as Kooltherm, Optim-R and IPN Quadcore, are the most thermally efficient materials available in their respective market sectors.
