Global IT company Tata Consultancy Services is to create more than 80 highly skilled jobs across Ireland.

The new roles, which are already open for recruitment, will cover the areas of project management, development, data science, and business intelligence.

The Indian-owned TCS established an office in Dublin in 2001 and today operates with over 100 consultants in Ireland.

The TCS operation in Ireland focuses on education, supply chain, enterprise solutions, digital technologies and IT portfolio optimisation.

Head of Ireland Operations at TCS Venkatesh Priyadarshi said: “As the Irish economy has accelerated over the last number of months, we are seeing a pronounced increase in demand for the digital and business solutions we provide and expect to grow our business and the number of open positions we will look to hire even further over the next twelve months.”

Meanwhile, technology retailer Dixons Carphone has announced the creation of 220 seasonal jobs ahead of the busy Christmas shopping season.

The new part-time jobs will be based across the group's 125 stores around the country - including Carphone Warehouse and Curry’s PC World.

Roles include retail staff and sales and customer support, along with a number of commercial positions at Group head office.

Recruitment has begun and the company said it hopes to have all positions filled within the next month.

According to recent figures from Retail Excellence Ireland, the third quarter of this year was the best quarterly performance since 2007 for the retail sector.

Sales were up 5.5% on the same period last year with sales topping €3.3 billion across 4,000 stores in Ireland.

Dixons Carphone is the country's largest independent electrical and communications retailer, employing over 1,050 people. Dixons and Carphone Warehouse officially merged in August 2014 to become one business.

The Dixons Carphone group operates across nine countries employing over 40,000 people.

Elsewhere, tech firm PlanNet21 Communications has announced 50 more jobs at its Citywest Business Campus in Dublin.

In July the company created 30 jobs as well as a €20m investment in a wholly-owned data centre in Blanchardstown.

Taoiseach, Enda Kenny cut the ribbon for the official opening of the new offices.
