The Co Meath-based manufacturer of excavator attachments Geith International is proposing the migration of its Irish manufacturing from Slane to China and Portugal.
The move would likely result in the loss of 79 out of 106 jobs at the firm’s site in Slane.
A consultation process in relation to the proposal is to take place, and Geith management will begin consultations and negotiations with its trade union (SIPTU) and employee representatives.
The company said it would continue to provide a full portfolio of products, parts and services to the industry as normal, and would continue to manage all of its non-manufacturing operations from Ireland.
Geith operations in the UK and US would not be affected by the proposal.
If, after consultation, the proposal is confirmed the redundancies would take place over a period of three months.
The announcement follows an extensive review of manufacturing operations at Geith, in the context of what the company said was increased competitive pressure.
