The name of the new Central Bank Governor to replace Patrick Honohan may be announced next week.

The Minister for Finance has not yet made a decision on the matter, however he may bring his preference for a new governor to Cabinet next Tuesday.

There has been intense speculation that Robert Watt, the current secretary general of the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, will be nominated for the position.

Another candidate reportedly in the process is Philip Lane, Professor of Political Economy at Trinity College Dublin.
