The first Penney's store in the US opened today in Boston, under the Primark brand name.

It marks a new departure and big expansion for the Dublin-headquartered company, which is now British owned.

Primark Boston, situated in the historic Burnham Building, comprises over 7,150 square metres of selling space and will create nearly 600 new jobs.

The new store includes 73 cash registers, 84 fitting rooms, 530 mannequins, and a ‘trend room’ to showcase latest designs.

In addition to Boston, Primark plans to open seven more stores across the northeast of the US over the next year.

It now operates more than 291 stores in nine countries.
