The chief executive of insurance company FBD Holdings has stepped down with immediate effect.

In a statement he said “I believe the time is right for somebody new to lead the company through its next phase.”
Shares in the company fell sharply following the announcement.
Group finance director and former Central Bank director Fiona Muldoon has been appointed as interim CEO pending the appointment of a permanent successor.
The company, which will release its results for the first half of the year on 25 August, said this process would take place “without delay”.
