The Irish Infrastructure Fund has formally taken over the operation of the Convention Centre in Dublin.

The fund, which is managed by Irish Life Investment Management with backing from the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, had been named as the preferred bidder for the property in February.

The Convention Centre Dublin was developed as a public-private partnership with the building being State-owned and operated under a concession contract that runs to 2035.

The sale of the concession came after the Spencer Dock Development Company entered liquidation.

As part of the contract, the Irish Infrastructure Fund will now operate and maintain centre, while also gaining a long-term lease of its underground car park and the licence to build and operate a 330-bed hotel on an adjacent site.
