The number of residential planning applications is up significantly compared to last year but building activity appears to have slowed down, according to the latest housing construction index.
The index is compiled by Link2Plans from local authority data.
Housing commencements are down by half compared to the first four months of 2014.
However, this is due mainly to the introduction of new regulations in March last year which was preceded by a rush to complete building work.
