Ireland’s newest mobile network, which is being established by Dixons Carphone, is to be called iD.

The €30 million operation, due to launch later this summer, will have the same name as the company’s British equivalent.

The service will run on 3 Ireland’s network and will employ around 50 people.

It is targeting 6% of market share within its first five years of existence.

The company is also investing €6 million in a new data centre to power the new network.

iD says it will offer greater flexibility and more innovative plans than other operators, in an effort to try to tap into consumer demands and trends.

Its research found that over the next year, a third of bill-pay and a fifth of pre-pay customers intend switching operators.

iD’s parent, Dixons Carphone, currently employs 1,050 people here across 119 shops.
