Ryanair has reported a 16% increase in passenger numbers for the month of April.

The airline said it carried a total of nine million passengers last month, up from 7.8 million the same time last year.

Its load factor - how many seats it fills on each flight - also increased, moving up to 91% from 84%.

The airline said the increase was due to lower fares, better service and stronger forward bookings for its summer schedule.
