Korean electronics giant LG has unveiled a new flagship smartphone featuring a leather covered back and an improved camera.
The new LG G4 handset was unveiled this afternoon at simultaneous press conferences around the world.
The screen and body on the G4 are slightly curved, which LG says makes them 20 per cent more durable than a flat smartphone when dropped face down.
The company also says the curved design makes the phone more comfortable and secure to hold.
LG claims the new 5.5 inch IPS Quantum Display has 20 per cent greater colour reproduction and 25 per cent brightness than its predecessor, the G3.
The phone also has a new 16MP rear-facing camera which has an F1.8 aperture lens that LG says allows 80 per cent more light to hit the image sensor.
The G4’s main camera also has a manual mode to allow more experienced photographers to control settings like focus, shutter speed and exposure.
In an effort to challenge the premium design features of competitors, including the iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the G4 is available with a full leather back in a range of six colours.
However, for those who don’t like the leather look, the handset will also be available in a range of three other materials and colours.
The G4 comes with an upgraded interface built on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor.
Unlike its rival Samsung, LG has retained a removable 3,000mAh battery, which the company says has no problem lasting a full day.
The phone comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of memory, which can be expanded using the microSD slot but also comes with 100GB of Google Drive storage free for two years.
