Dublin-based firm Icon has reported a 54.7% rise in pre-tax profit in the first quarter of 2015 after a sharp rise in company revenue.

Icon, which provides services to pharmaceutical companies to help them bring new products to market, said its income before tax for the quarter stood at almost $66.7m – compared to almost $43.1m in the same period of 2014.

This came on the back of an 11% rise in net revenue, which hit $388.2m in the quarter.

Costs and expenses also rose year-on-year, though at a much slower rate than the revenue side.

Icon currently employs more than 1,000 people in Ireland, across offices in Dublin and Limerick.

Earlier this year it announced plans to create a global innovation hub in the country, which would create 200 new jobs.
