Toy shop chain Imaginarium is to close its two Irish stores over the summer months.

The two shops in Dublin are located in Dundrum and in Swords and each store employs up to four people.

The Swords shop is due to close at the end of June and the Dundrum shop will close the following month.

The Spanish-headquartered company sells high quality, educational toys and it is believed the decision to exit the Irish market was due to its poor performance here.

Imaginarium has about 400 shops in 25 countries. It had previously operated shops in Blanchardstown and in Dun Laoghaire, but these closed some time ago.
