The Taoiseach has said the Government is not in the business of having a Budget in October that is entirely focused on a general election in 2016.

He was speaking to staff and visitors at the opening of Yahoo!'s new EMEA headquarters in Dublin.

Mr Kenny said now is about managing the economy carefully and progressively and the challenge was to do that in a way that managed the expectations of people.

He said the Government wants and expects 40,000 more jobs to be created in the economy this year and also wants to see a position where work pays and is seen to pay.

He said the focus now needs to be on targeted investment in terms of tax restructuring, childcare, welfare reform and infrastructure.

Mr Kenny also said the investment by Yahoo! comes at an important time in the recovery here and was a signal of confidence in Ireland.
