Figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the Dublin region had the highest average disposable income per person in 2012.

At €22,011, the Dublin figure was 13% higher than the average national figure of €19,468 and about 1.9% higher than the figure for 2011.

The eight regional authority areas are Dublin, Border, Midland, West, Mid East, Mid West, South East and South West.

The CSO figures also reveal that the Border region with €17,126 and the Midland region with €17,288 fared worst among the eight regions and were about 12% below the State average.

Dublin was the only region with higher per capita disposal income than the State average during the years from 2003 to 2012, while the Midland, Border and West regions have continued to earn less than the average.

Today's figures also show that the counties of Dublin, Kildare, Limerick and Cork were the only ones where per capita disposable income exceeded the state average in 2012.
