There was a near 30% increase in the number of new cars licensed in February compared to the same month last year.
According to the CSO, 15,384 new cars were licensed in the month, up 29.2% on the figure in February 2014, indicating that the strong growth in car sales is continuing.
Up to the end of February, there were 35,489 new private cars licensed, a rise of 27.3% on the corresponding figure for the first two months of 2014.
Volkswagen was the best selling brand in February followed by Nissan, Ford and Toyota.
There was a big surge in the number of new goods vehicles licensed in February too, reflecting an upturn in the economy.
A total of 2,560 new goods vehicles were licensed in February, up 58% from the same month in 2014.
