Stena Line has confirmed that Stena HSS will not be returning to the Dun Laoghaire-Holyhead route.

This marks the end of Dun Laoghaire-Holyhead services after 204 years.

The ferry company had earlier cancelled its scheduled fast-craft services between Dun Laoghaire and Holyhead over the Christmas holiday period.

The schedule for the Stena HSS Explorer from Dun Laoghaire has been reduced over the past four years, running on a seasonal basis throughout the summer and for a few weeks at Christmas.

Sailings were due to run from December 20 until January.

Gerry Dunne, chief executive of the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company, said it was disappointing that a service will not be resuming for the summer season.

"The Harbour Company is now seeking alternative providers to operate a seasonal service on the route," he added.
